On Thursday, January 8th, and Friday, January 9th, the Somerset Berkley Regional High School DECA chapter attended the District 2 DECA competition in Mansfield, Massachusetts, at the Envision Hotel. There were many schools in attendance, including Sharon High School, Franklin High School, Holliston High School, King Philip Regional High School, Dighton-Rehoboth High School, and many more.
The competition was very competitive, and we had 18 students qualify for States, where they will be competing in Boston from March 12-14. Additionally, two students will be going to States for Quiz Bowl, where they will compete to win first place in a trivia-style setting.
Our qualifying students include Aisha Imran (myself) and Tammy Chen, who placed 2nd in Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making; Lauren Kanuse and Louise Caso, who placed 2nd in Marketing Management Team Decision Making; Gabby Farias, who placed 2nd in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling; Evan Isidoro and Brody Philips, who placed 3rd in Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making; Abby Charette, who placed 3rd in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling; Ella Sousa, who placed 3rd in Professional Selling; Hope Bettencourt, who placed 3rd in Food Marketing Series; Patrick O’Donovan, who placed 3rd in Apparel and Accessories Marketing Series; Ava Andrade and Sydnie Medeiros, who placed 4th in Marketing Management Team Decision Making; Grace Tweedie, who placed 4th in Hotel and Lodging Management Series; Peyton Allard and Sarah Costa, who placed 5th in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Making; and Paige Danner and Ava Pasternak, who placed 5th in Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making.
Congratulations to all our qualifiers. DECA gives students the opportunity to showcase their skills and solve real world problems. As the DECA president of our chapter, I couldn’t be more proud of the success we experienced at Districts. I’m excited to see what the future holds and look forward to competing in the upcoming months.
