Sunday’s Super Bowl was a heartbreaker for New England football fans as they lost the Championship to the Seattle Seahawks. The final game of the Patriot’s overachieving 2025-26 season didn’t go as they, or their fans hoped, and now they are beginning to question this great season. Some are now saying that they only made it as far as they did because of their easy schedule, or players like Bo Nix getting injured before their game against them. Others have questioned the Pat’s offensive line, most notably fourth overall pick, left tackle Will Campbell. Since Sunday, I’ve heard people say that he should be moved to left guard and that the Patriots should draft a new left tackle, or pick one up in free agency. Also, at my Super Bowl party, people were calling him a T-rex, which he was called before the season for having short arms.
In addition to the O-line being questioned, MVP runner-up Drake Maye has also been questioned. After his stellar season where he lost the MVP race by just one vote to Matthew Stafford, he had a lot of hype coming into this game. He didn’t quite live up to these expectations. Maye completed just over 50% of his passes and had a passer rating of 79.1. To go along with this he also threw two interceptions, one being returned for a touchdown, and fumbled.
Although the Patriots had a poor showing in their final game of the season, fans can’t forget what happened over the course of the first twenty games. They came back from back-to-back four win seasons to win 14 regular season games and make it to the Super Bowl. Throughout this journey, they also had their young, second year quarterback prove himself as one of the best QBs in the league and as the next face of the franchise. Regarding the Super Bowl game, it should also be noted that Will Campbell was playing with a torn ligament, and Drake Maye might have had a legit injury as well. Also, the defense made big signs of improvement throughout the season and played very well during the Super Bowl. When looking forward, fans should expect another great season next year, and remain hopeful of another deep playoff run.
