Junior and Senior Class President Interview

Junior+and+Senior+Class+President+Interview

Colby Yokell and Sydney Mis

We recently interviewed the Junior class president, John Myron and the Senior class president, Zachary Ledo.

Zachary Ledo (Senior Class President)

What are your goals as president?

My goal as president is to make sure we do everything together and everyone – especially the seniors – enjoy their year.  I want things pushed across for other grades, such as Snack-Back, to make SBRHS more enjoyable for everybody.  I want people to think of me as a good and equal leader, and a person who shares their ideas with everyone.  For Case Rally, I tried to incorporate everyone as much as I possibly could, and I think I did a pretty good job with that.

What do you enjoy most about being president?

I enjoy being in-touch with everybody and developing new ideas.  Also, I like being involved in things in SBRHS, and being president helps me do just that.  While it can be hectic as the coordinator of everything,  it’s also really fun.

Why are you trying to bring snack time back?

I’m personally trying to bring snack time back because I believe it helped us learn better.  Also, it’s more nutritious to eat small snacks throughout the day then to just have one meal.  I’m an athlete and it gives me a chance to eat throughout the day which is necessary when you’re trying to keep yourself healthy for sports.  High school is a gateway to independence.  No one holds your hand, and we should be at an age where we can be mature and responsible.  Also, I want to bring snack time back because I’m sure there’s science behind it too (laughs.)

How are you planning to bring snack time back?

We’re going to present it to the School Committee and explain why we’re doing it.

Does Student Council do community service?

Definitely!  We all went Christmas carolling this holiday season for Clifton.  I wouldn’t call it community service even though it’s something we all have to do.  It’s actually fun, especially since we had John Myron singing (laughs.)

Do you have plans to go into politics after high school?

No, but I do want to take political science classes.  I want to go more into business, but I think the political science classes will be fun and interesting.

What public figures do you look up to?

I look up to Tom Brady and Kate Upton.  Is that an acceptable answer?  Personally, I love Tom Brady because I grew up watching him.  To me, he epitomizes the American dream.

How can you get students involved in issues around the school?

It can be as simple as letting them know.  You can either hang up posters and fliers as a more traditional method, or you can post stuff on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as a more modern method.  I have a friend group that you can talk to as well.  They help me out a lot.  With something like Snack-Back, the more people that you have supporting it, the better it can be.

John Myron

What are your goals as president?

First, the student council is initiating a bring Snack-Back initiative, which we’re very, very excited for. Among that, we want to bring basic things back to the school. Bring a little tradition, like the old school. We just recently had Case Rally which was exciting. Also, to improve our existing $83 million building we want to focus on real-world issues that we can address as a student body.

What do you enjoy most about being president?

The responsibility that comes with it. I get to be part of a lot of interesting things like the Snack-Back committee, so that’s always exciting.

Why are you trying to bring snack back?

Well first off, kids have had a lot of complaints, and that is throughout all the classes. Zach Ledo and I – as the upperclassmen’s presidents – have a responsibility to hear out their complaints. So people want to have snacks, kids are hungry. Hungry in the sense that they have to wait 5 hours between meals. That’s really not ok.

How are you planning to bring snack time back?

We plan to do it by drafting a proposal to present to the building committee in a very professional manner.

Does student council do community service?

Yes, we benefit the community a lot. It was fun when we went caroling the 20th at Clifton. We had songbooks and we had music. We had a big showing of kids; it was rewarding just to put smiles on people’s faces.

Do you have plans to go into politics after high school?

Yes actually I am, so this is kinda a good preparation – trying to appease everybody (it doesn’t work out but the effort’s there.) I do hope to go into politics as I’m older – its an interesting field.

What public figure do you look up to?

Hillary Clinton because she is an independent woman who doesn’t take crap from people around her. She ignores the social norms and how people can be condescending and rude to her, she still runs with it. A person in a position of power that addresses things in a respectful manner is someone I look up to.

How can you get students involved in issues around the school?

Students most of the time want to get involved. They’re really always asking me what they can do and how they can help, like the Snack-Back committee (there is a lot of people that said they wanted to be on that and wanted to be there when we present the idea,) so most of the time if you just give them an occasion, they’ll rise.
