My DECA 2024 States Experience

My+DECA+2024+States+Experience

What is DECA you may ask? Well DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, and it is a club that teaches and prepares us in the fields of marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and hospitality. This is a very good club for business and it prepares you for the real world. I decided to join DECA here at SBRHS and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made because I learned and grew so much from DECA in the past year. DECA is all about putting yourself in a real life situation in which you would have to give your solution to the problem in order to fulfill your goal and satisfy customers. It all depends on your category. I decided to Join DECA because I want to go into the business field in the future and hopefully start up my own company and DECA is definitely something that Is helping me get to that. Even if you don’t want to go into the business field I highly encourage you to join DECA because you learn how to communicate effectively with others and especially if you have a Job you can learn alot of pointers.

I went to the DECA district state competition in January this year and it was a new experience for me but it was really fun. I got a roleplay and had 10 minutes to present my solution to the Judge and I was nervous at first but it wasn’t bad at all when I was actually presenting. But after district’s even though I didn’t get top 5 I still got to go to the state competition to compete in the quizbowl and I’m so grateful to have gotten that opportunity.

DECA states was an amazing experience and words can’t explain how I felt about it because it was so incredible. We had a two day overnight trip at the Boston Marriott Hotel Copley Place March 7-9. We got to attend the opening session at Hynes, achievement awards session, grand awards session and got to visit many more places. It was so much fun preparing for quiz bowl with my teammates Reagan Killoran, Ava Ricard, and Karissa Albin. I really enjoyed meeting new people and making memories with everyone in DECA. Hearing all the speeches that were presented at the sessions really inspired and motivated me because DECA is something that changed so many people’s lives and I just know that DECA is something that I want to continue doing. I got to attend some of the workshops and they all taught me something and I got to talk to people from other schools and it was just a positive experience overall. I’m excited to use all the knowledge that I learned from DECA this year and apply it to the competitions in the future. Congratulations Luke Thornton, Avery Oliveira, Lauren Kanuse, Louise Caso, Jaden DaCruz, Jasper Troutman, Lucas Enos, and Allison Kettle for winning medals. And Congratulations to our ICDC bound members Ian Foulds and Hunter Pearson. Thank you Ms.Burniston, Mr.Melo, Mr.Homberg, and Ms.Smith for making this all possible, and I hope we get to expand our club even more in the future.
