James Phenix getting 2nd place

James Phenix is one of our wrestler’s here at SBRHS. He has been doing amazing this season and has shown his great skills throughout all the wrestling meets. I think all the talented athletes here at SBRHS should be put under the spotlight. This is his senior year and final year wrestling for SBRHS as a Raider, so let’s hear about his experience.

Why did you decide to do wrestling or what motivated you to get involved in the sport?

I played football here at SBRHS and thought it would be nice to look at all the other opportunities presented. Wrestling has a lot to do with weight and I just found it interesting and appealing. Coach Fallon also wanted me to join so I decided to give it a try.

How many years have you done wrestling?

I have done wrestling for 2 years. I did it last year which was my junior year and this will be my second year doing it.

How do you like wrestling so far and how is your experience going?

I love it. I think it’s a fascinating sport, I enjoy wrestling and everything that comes with it.

What was your best moment when doing wrestling?

My best moment doing wrestling was last year for finalists at sectionals where I placed 2nd.

Are you going to continue wrestling after high school?

I don’t think I will be able to just because I’m planning on doing a military program and sports would be hard to manage with that. But I will come back to SBRHS and watch the wrestling meets.

What would you say to someone who is nervous about starting wrestling?

It’s normal to be nervous, but really there’s no need to be nervous. Wrestling teaches you a lot and helps you become better. It gives you a strong mindset and is a good sport to be involved in. Just have fun with it.
