A group of students (from SBRHS and Case) toured Meditech, a company located in Fall River, on January 25th from 9:00 am to 11:30 pm.

Meditech, short for Medical Information Technology, is a company that develops information systems for healthcare organizations. Improving the efficiency of healthcare technology, Meditech hopes to lighten the workload of medical professionals and allow healthcare data to be easily accessible by patients.

Leaving the school at 8:45, students took a school bus to Meditech and were greeted by the staff upon arrival. Students were then handed visitor tags, led into a room to listen to a presentation by the staff, and offered snacks.

During the presentation, students were able to ask questions, contribute in the conversations, and some volunteers participated in a “roleplay” to demonstrate the use of Meditech in hospitals and medical facilities.

After the presentation, students listened to personal stories from some of the staff and were able to learn about their experiences in choosing a career after graduating, discovering their interests, learning about Meditech, and eventually working there.

Shortly after, students took a tour of the Meditech building. Walking through their cafeteria and up 3 flights of stairs to the 4th floor, students were able to see the workplaces of the staff, collaborative areas, and different rooms which serve for a variety of purposes.

After the tour, students got back onto the bus and headed back to school at around 11:20 am.

Overall, the Meditech Tour was a great experience for students to explore an opportunity in the technology and medical field. Students were not only able to learn about Meditech, but were also provided advice on choosing careers in medical and technological fields.
