Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a happy Chanukkah! If you are looking for a fun, interesting game to either celebrate or learn more about Chanukkah traditions, look no further! Dreidel can be a fun activity with family and friends.

Here’s how to play:

  • Start all players with the same number of game pieces
  • Have players put one game piece into the “pot” at the beginning of every turn (even if the turn is not their own)
  • Spin the dreidel once during your turn, and make changes to the “pot” based on which Hebrew letter the dreidel lands on
  • Play as many rounds as you can with your game pieces
  • Play until there are no more bets and one player has the game pieces

What the symbols mean on the Dreidel:

Via “Spin a Dreidel”

(Left to right)

  • “Shin” indicates that the player must put a game piece into the pot (translates to “put in”)
  • “Hey” indicates that the player receives half of the pot (translates to “half”)
  • “Gimel” indicates that the player receives all of the pot (translates to “everything”)
  • “Nun” indicates that the player relieves none of the pot (translates to “nothing”)
