Have you ever wanted to code your own website? Or maybe create your own game? If so, Somerset Berkley has the club for you. This month, the Coding Club started under Co-Presidents Thomas Rose and Dylan Harbeck with the guidance of Dr. Burke. The group is currently looking for new members and is open to anyone. No experience is required to join the Coding Club.

When speaking to Co-President Dylan Harbeck, he told me “it all started when I was looking for clubs because I wasn’t a part of very many. I emailed my guidance counselor to find tech clubs, but was told there wasn’t a big enough interest in it. I decided that I wanted to make a tech club and pitched the idea of one that teaches the basics of coding to Dr. Burke. He told me that he had an idea of creating an MIT App Inventor club. In the end, we decided to attract a larger audience and create a group for those who love coding in general.”

The other Co-President, Thomas Rose, told me that, “Coding Club gives kids the opportunity to work on any type of coding project they desire. They can do so individually or with other members of the club.”  He also made it clear that, “it’s a good platform for people who are just starting off to work with others who already know how to code.” Even if you do not have your mind set on what you would like to work on now, you will find many good options when you join the club. Some examples of possible types of projects you can make in the club include raspberry pi projects, malware creation, and video game design.

If you are interested in joining the club, they meet every Monday immediately after school in room 124A right across from Mr. Ramos’ engineering class.
