On Sunday, June 8th, the Somerset Berkley Raiders went against the Milford Hawks in a very exciting baseball game in order to make the Final Four. The team played incredibly well and won with a score of 9-2! The sportsmanship and enthusiasm could clearly be seen on the field and the Raiders have done it once again. This year all the SBRHS athletic sports teams are doing better than ever. The field hockey team and the basketball team have won the state championship this year and it seems like the baseball team has the same goal. They have been working hard and will now be advancing to the Final Four of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 State Baseball Tournament. Captain Jayden Cruz said “I’m so happy for this team, there’s nothing more that I could want.” The team showed their skills on the field by scoring six runs in the third inning and doing even better as the game continued. Great performances were shown from players Ryan Crook, Jayden Cruz, Alex Crook, Luke Thornton, Liam Meehan, Anthony Alderman, Brady Carpenter, Hayden Teasdale, and Kyle Sherman. The SBRHS defense was very strong which is why they were able to stop Milford. The pitching was also on point and not many errors were made in the game. The Raiders came out with 9 hits in this game and had 12 hits in their win against Melrose High School last Wednesday. Kyle Sherman says “We barely made errors, we play clean all the time.” The baseball team is a tough team that is hard to beat because they have the mindset and patience that is needed in order to win. Kyle as a starter has a record of 7-1 with a 1.899 earned run average. Kyle has played high-level baseball and his talent could be seen by everyone around him. Congrats to the baseball team on this great victory! The next game will be tomorrow so make sure you come and support the baseball team and cheer them on as they grow closer to winning the State Championship. Bleed Blue Raiders!
