Since seniors have less than one month left of their high school career, I thought an interview with a senior would be a nice check-in on their plans after high school. My friend Maddy Gosselin has kindly allowed me to interview her about her future plans after high school.
1. What are some of your interests/hobbies?
- Gardening – “I helped start the Gardening Club at SBRHS”
- Cooking
- Playing instruments/listening to music
2. What are your plans after high school?
- Attending University of Maine to study Ecology and Environmental Science
3. What is your dream job?
- Field research: being out in nature to study climate change
4. What is your ultimate goal in life?
- Live life to the fullest and make a difference in the world
5. Do you think college is a good path to take after high school even though tuition can be expensive? Why or why not?
- It mostly depends on what you want to do; you can be an apprentice to an electrician, or get a Bachelor’s degree and work an office job.
- Your degree will pay off; it’s a good experience to have, and you can join co-ops (still studying, but you have a job).
6. What is one advice you would give to someone who is struggling to figure out what they want to do after high school?
- Figure out what you don’t want to do first
- Most people can be like, “Oh I can never be a nurse, or I could never work in early education.”
- It helps you narrow down your field of interest.
- Think about the classes you took in high school; maybe you really enjoyed doing labs in biology or graphic design, then email some professors and students from schools that offer those courses and just explore from there. There are always plenty of resources available to you.
7. Any final words?
- Stay curious! 🙂
