Field Hockey Season Opener

The sun was beating down on this warm last day of summer. After one full half of play, Somerset  and New Bedford remained scoreless. Throughout the first half, Ashley Frank, the teams forward, had many opportunities to score, coming up short nearly every time. Many corners occurred and still no score came. The seconds were counting down and the Raiders had one more chance to score before the half ended, but the clock reached 0 and there was still no score at the end half.

To start the second half, each team put up a goal of there own, making a tie of one to one. After more contact and competitiveness, the Raiders put up yet another goal turning the score to an intense 2 to 1 game. When there was nearly 20 seconds left, Rachel Coombes scored yet another goal, to achieve an amazing hat trick! Now that the Raiders had a solid lead, they played harder than ever, and they held the lead to win their first game of the season. Congrats to the team, and good luck in the rest of the season!
