Holiday Art Show: Eye Candy That Beats Any Sweets Inside Your Stocking

On December 14th, from 6-7 PM, the art department took over the gallery showing student work and selling handmade ornaments, earrings, and cards. With such a wide variety of quality art, and the lovely live music by Ben Matos, there is no mystery behind the amazing turnout.

The current art gallery is an impressive collection of student work from every art course here at SBRHS. “I always like it when we are able to showcase all of the classes together,” Mrs. Troutman says. “We are extremely fortunate to have classes in 2D and 3D arts, and in turn, skills shown in a wide variety of media.” Pedestals held beautiful pinch-pots that students have made, while the walls were filled with illustrations and photographs.

This exhibit not only shows the works of classes as a whole, but also of star students of the art department. Many being from AP Art Studio, a senior class, these students include: Sam Angelini, Emily Binette, Jill Earle, Brady Oliveira, Ben Matos, Nicole Medeiros, Erin Rockcliffe, Eric Rogers, Logan Shaker, and Faye Silvia. “There are many emerging artists in the gallery,” Ben Matos says. “It was inspiring to see the collection.”

Not only was the art itself impressive, but the money raised for the Blue Raider Scholarship was also on par. Earrings, ornaments, cards, magnets, and other goods were for sale in order to benefit the fund. Approximately $100 was raised on the night of the gallery, which will be added to the money raised by Mrs. Bowers , Mrs. Schmigle, and Mrs. Andrews during the weeks prior.

Mrs. Schmigle refers to the show as “classy and festive” and, along with the rest of the art department, looks forward to more successful shows in the future.
