Fantastic Beasts Of A Movie

Leanna Silva, Reporter

I just went to see the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and it was spectacular. I was expecting it to be good, because anything J.K. Rowling creates is amazing. As a child I grew up watching the Harry Potter movie series and was very disappointed when it came to an end. When I found out that this movie was coming out, I knew I had to see it. Now if you haven’t seen the Harry Potter movies, don’t worry- you don’t need to have seen those movies to understand this movie.  This movie exceeded my best expectations.

The movie begins with Newt Scamander the main character coming to New York, with a suitcase full of magical creatures. In New York, he hopes to save a monster from extinction, and finds other collectors who have monster eggs. Many wizards fear these monsters and misunderstand them, making Newt unique for his love of magical creatures. While he is walking through New York, he sees a woman talking about how there are wizards and witches all around them and they need to be eradicated.

One of his monsters escapes his suitcase. Chasing after the creature, he goes into a bank and has a brief encounter with a “No-maj” (Muggle, a person without magical ability) named Jacob. They switch suitcases and he witnesses Newt using magic. All the monsters escape out of his suitcase. Newt encounters Porpentina, another wizard. She works for MACUSA, a magical congress in the United States. She decides to follow Newt around and make sure he doesn’t get into more trouble, as magic cannot be revealed to No-majs.

Sometimes, when I am watching movies I cannot see the actresses and actors as their characters. Sometimes, the cast in other movies cannot reach their characters emotional depth. If I cannot feel their sincerity, it ruins the movie for me. However, Eddie Redmayne did an excellent job playing Newt. Porpentina is played by Katherine Waterston, and Jacob is played by Dan Fogler. Overall I think the cast was very good in their roles. I have no complaints about the actors and actresses. They were all very believable. I thought their performances were authentic and I believed their sincerity.

I also loved the special effects in the movie. They were really good and have you ready to pull out your wand. The movie keeps you on your toes. I guarantee you will never be bored. Also, when the movie ends you will not be disappointed. After the movie, I was ready to watch it again. If you love magic as much as I do, buy your tickets now. Also, sequels are expected, so there is more to look forward to. The movie was not only action-packed, it was also hilarious. There is a little bit of everything for everyone in this movie. There is action, romance, comedy, and friendship. This movie was so good, I am thinking of buying the DVD.

One of the lessons in this movie is friends can come from all places. No matter where you go, you take memories of them with you along the journey. Everyone needs friends that will stay by their side to the end. The movie portrayed a great friendship between the main characters and was very realistic.

This movie is rated PG-13 and is for all ages. Many adults assume that PG-13 movies are only for teens. This movie is for all ages except kids under 13. Anyone who loves the work J.K. Rowling created with Harry Potter will love this movie. I certainly enjoyed this movie and know others will also. I would recommend it for others to watch. At times the movie can be scary, but ultimately it is fun to watch. You will not regret watching this movie. However, it is not just another Harry Potter as this movie has a completely different story line. Despite this, I’m sure this film won’t disappoint.

Rating:

I would give this movie 5/5 stars.
